Marital and Family Mediation

Marital Mediation is for couples stuck in a destruction cycle of conflict, often around a certain area – such as money, sex, or parenting styles.  Marital mediation is not therapy.  Mediators with Genesis Mediation will seek to resolve the immediate conflict, then refer you to a therapist for other work, if needed.  Marital Mediation is short-term, solution focused to resolve conflict.  Most couples arrive at agreement and break the conflict cycle within a month.  This is not true for conflict around issues such as addiction or personality disorders.

Family Mediation involves conflict within family members, either by birth or marriage.  Destructive conflict can affect relationships between siblings, parents and teenagers, or adult children with adult parents.  Blended families can create interesting challenges.  Family Mediation is not therapy.  The focus is short-term, solution-based resolution of ongoing conflict in specific areas.  Dysfunctional family elements need therapy to bring healing.  Mediation can create action plans of how to operate within a family system, creating agreement and boundaries.
